Elizabeth Stone Educational Fund
Dr. James Edward Stone married Miss Elizabeth Willis in December of 1900. In 1909, Dr. and Mrs. Stone moved to Hopkinsville to expand his practice. They built a home on South Main Street and for over 50 years the home became a calling place for all people of the community that felt the need of his ministrations. The couple became an important part of the social, civic and religious affairs of Hopkinsville.
Mrs. Elizabeth Stone died on February 28, 1943. Dr. Stone devoted the years following her death to his profession of healing and served as a doctor, counselor and advisor of families.
Dr. Stone died on September 13, 1952 after suffering a cereberal hemorrhage. When his will was recorded two weeks later, it was discovered that Dr. Stone had left the majority of his estate for the establishment of a revolving educational loan fund to be named "The Elizabeth Stone Educational Fund" in honor of his wife.
